A 5 for 5 Church ...

Salem UCC is proud to be a 5 for 5 church, meaning we give to the five main ministries of the United Church of Christ. East of these ministires is vital to the life of the Church and those it supports. Thank you for contributing to these and other ministires supported by Salem United Church of Christ.

OCWM provides funding from congregations for Conferences and the national ministires of the United Church of Christ (Wider Church Ministires, Local Church Ministires, Justice and Witness Ministries, General Ministries and Pension Boards).

UCC Special Mission Offerings  that are part of OCWM include One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need and The Christmas Fund.  These four offerings sponsor vital ministires that bring hope to people in the U.S. and around the world.

One Great Hour of Sharing   Received on the fourth Sunday of Lent, OGHS channels resources for international programs in health, education and agricultural development, emergency relief, refugee ministries, and both international and domestic disaster response, administered by Wider church Ministries, Global Sharing of Resources.

Strengthen the Church is received on Pentecost Sunday as a special mission offering to reimagine and build the future of the UCC. Shared at the conference and national levels, STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC does not have a strong presence. It also provides support for existing church's new initiatives.

Neighbors in Need is received the first Sunday in October to support ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States, including the Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM), justice and advocacy, and direct service projects supported by Justice and Local Church Ministires.

The Christmas Fund is received the Sunday before Christmas to help provide penstion and health premium supplementation to low-income retired church workers, emergency assistance to glergy families in need, and Christmas checks to hundreds of annuitants, as administered by the Pension Boards.

The Global Ministries

Child Sponsorship Program

The Global Ministries Child Sponsorship Program is the place to get connected! This global children's ministry works closely with private centers that have long-established links with a UCC or Disciples global partner. Through partners, we work in collaboration with our agencies to provide food, basic health care, clothing and in some cases housing, school fees, uniform, books and training and livelihood opportunities to many poor and destitute children in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Eurpoe.
